The \u2018EU-MAT: Effec\u00adtive Urban Mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal Min\u00ading in Cities\u2019<\/strong> project address\u00ades the low mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal cir\u00adcu\u00adlar\u00adi\u00adty in con\u00adstruc\u00adtion across the north\u00adern regions of Fin\u00adland, Swe\u00adden, and Nor\u00adway, where logis\u00adti\u00adcal chal\u00adlenges and vast dis\u00adtances hin\u00adder effi\u00adcient mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal reuse. One of the key bar\u00adri\u00aders cit\u00aded for not uti\u00adliz\u00ading used build\u00ading mate\u00adri\u00adals in a mate\u00adri\u00adals cas\u00adcade, is con\u00adcern and a lack of infor\u00adma\u00adtion about the avail\u00adabil\u00adi\u00adty and qual\u00adi\u00adty of these resources, mak\u00ading it dif\u00adfi\u00adcult to match poten\u00adtial sup\u00adply with new build\u00ading projects. To over\u00adcome this spe\u00adcif\u00adic obsta\u00adcle, the project aims to devel\u00adop an inno\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive urban mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal min\u00ading method that can accu\u00adrate\u00adly assess the quan\u00adti\u00adty and qual\u00adi\u00adty of reusable mate\u00adri\u00adals from demo\u00adli\u00adtions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through cross-bor\u00adder col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtion, the project will lever\u00adage mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal flow analy\u00adsis, spa\u00adtial mod\u00adel\u00ading, and machine learn\u00ading to cre\u00adate a min\u00ading method adapt\u00adable to north\u00adern cities. Espe\u00adcial\u00adly in more sparse\u00adly pop\u00adu\u00adlat\u00aded areas, where trans\u00adporta\u00adtion dis\u00adtances can be large, the re-uti\u00adliza\u00adtion of recov\u00adered build\u00ading prod\u00aducts in new local con\u00adstruc\u00adtion projects can save con\u00adsid\u00ader\u00adably on trans\u00adport and asso\u00adci\u00adat\u00aded emis\u00adsions. More\u00adover, local\u00adized repro\u00adcess\u00ading can cre\u00adate jobs help\u00ading strength\u00aden the local econ\u00ado\u00admy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Anoth\u00ader major chal\u00adlenge addressed by EU-MAT is that build\u00adings are hybrids, com\u00adposed of many dif\u00adfer\u00adent mate\u00adri\u00adals and build\u00ading prod\u00aducts and there is lack of inno\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive solu\u00adtions for new prod\u00aducts using hybrid mate\u00adri\u00adals. EU-MAT will engage stu\u00addents and expert designs with local busi\u00adness\u00ades to pro\u00adduce new build\u00ading prod\u00aducts to expand future re-usage sce\u00adnar\u00adios for the reclaimed mate\u00adri\u00adals. Effec\u00adtive\u00adly reusing or recy\u00adcling build\u00ading prod\u00aducts in this way will help reduce the impacts from the extrac\u00adtion of vir\u00adgin mate\u00adri\u00adals as well as land-fill\u00ading of con\u00adstruc\u00adtion and demo\u00adli\u00adtion waste, such as pol\u00adlu\u00adtion, habit loss, and car\u00adbon emis\u00adsions and there\u00adby help pro\u00adtect bio\u00addi\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty and ecosys\u00adtem ser\u00advices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
